We Shall Overcome

from by Emily Lacy

I've always loved this song and felt the need to rewrite certain lines in it since about 2010. I like placing the emphasis on "today" instead of "someday". It makes change feel more possible. Freedom and equality are a constant struggle, but they're worth fighting or.

Special thanks to John Nixon, Adrian Tenney, and the Barber Shop Recording Studio for their presence in these recordings!
